we are fine - nothing significant happened here just some wind, rain and power outages. if you are trying to call michael or me our phones are not working. as everyone knows new orleans and much of the gulf coast in mississippi is absolutely devastated. please send your good thoughts to them and if you can donate to the red cross or some other reputable charity that can help.

hurricane katrina is here. we are getting lots of wind and rain but it's not terrible (although i don't think i will be having my coffee outside today). i haven't seen anything big blowing down the street yet. we still have power. i think the plants in my yard are going to be really torn up and there are some birds hiding on our porch. i will try to post a video later.

we made it. after packing all of our worldly possessions into a 16ft budget moving truck, locking the keys in the cab, running out of gas, spending a ridiculous amount of money on gas, driving through the mountains, and eating lots of road trip food we made it to our new home. all of our stuff is still in boxes. it is hot and sunny here - my yard looks like a jungle.


i have been working on some new tank tops (in honor of the hot, sunny weather and my jungle back yard) - they are posted now so check them out.

michael and i and jo jo are moving - we bought a house down south. we leave on Wednesday 5/25. we are driving a 16 ft moving truck with as much of our stuff we can fit. nyc and brooklyn has been an incredible wonderful place to live for the last eight years but i'm ready for a change. i want a yard and more space and i want to be closer to my family and michael wants to be closer to his. jo jo just wants a yard. i will miss brooklyn and ny so much - i am sad to leave but happy to try something new.

we are making a few changes to the blog right now - please excuse our awkwardness...

i went to the city today and walked around - i had an iced coffee and grilled sesame bagel with cream cheese from Brew Bar - it is my favorite coffee place.

it is snowing!!!!! lots of thick white snow!!! joe loves the snow - he likes to eat it and dig in it and chase snowballs. the first time we took joe to the beach he got confused by the sand. he tried to eat it like he eats the snow.

we just put up a bunch of new sample sale flowers - time for some almost spring cleaning!

i don't know if these mannequins are effective sales tools.

we have been so busy with our fall orders!! it's really great. i have been expeimenting with dying silk - i want to do want silk and felt scarves.

i am also working on a new batch of t-shirts - long sleeved and more sizes (finally).
this week i traded with lagustas luscious and the food is super yummy!

Pack of Rats

we posted our fall scarves and flowers - we are so busy - although i did take some time to try some new ice cream - ben and jerrys peanut butter cup - it was pretty tasty. Michael and Joe and i went on a road trip a couple of weeks ago - we drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway and we were going to camp but all the campsites were filled with serial killers so we stayed at a sketchy biker motel instead. then we went down to Louisiana to see the families and attend a pre-nup party for my brother. then to Bay St. Louis for lazy beach time. then to Savannah (we were thinking of moving there but it didn't have enough vegetarian food options - it was beautiful though) then we drove to NY from Savannah in one day got back at 2 in the morning and went to bed.

i want it to be spring.

one of my cousins sent me a big beautiful box filled with food goodies from louisiana. last night i made the 10 bean cajun soup and it was so yummy. it was perfect for this chilly drizzly so called spring.

i have been working on some new flowers (they are up now) and i was calling them trash flowers but alison called them rag flowers so i might change the name.

today we had some of our friends over for brunch. i made figs stuffed with a goat cheese, chive and pistachio mix, chocolate/pistachio phyllo rolls, coffee cake muffins, wilted spinach salad, and a cheese and leek bread pudding. The bread pudding was really yummy. The wilted spinach salad was more like sauteed (it was still tasty) and everything else was pretty good. We also had bloody marys.

now it is back to the flower making!

and after some protest for lack of a picture here is the new do and a before. cutting off long hair is very liberating. i almost went for a pixie cut but maintaining it would have been trouble.

i had a haircut today - now it is very short - i donated my ponytail to Locks of Love

the new and improved supermaggie is up and hopefully running without any probelms. we have added a FAQ section, t-shirts, and lots of other new stuff. we still have a few things to touch up but it is pretty much done!


the crocus are coming up in the park - that means spring is coming!

i made chocolate bread last night with the bread machine - all the chocolate chips disappeared... i also made white bread and raisin bread. now i am out of flour and yeast so i will have to stop.

yesterday i went to the new whole foods flagship store at columbus circle. it was a total zoo - so many crazy people and very slow, confused tourists. the weather was really nice - 58 degrees i think - i didn't have to wear a scarf!
